SUPER GREAT !!

A friend of mine has massive food envy. And by that i mean if you are eating something larger than his, he WANTS IT.  So because of that i thought i might start posting all the big and outlandishly large foods that i encounter. I will call these posts: MY SANDWICH IS BIGGER THAN YOURS.

Rehearsal week one

So many apologies to everyone. I've been massively out of touch these last two weeks.
Primarily because THIS WEEK started my rehearsals for Richard II with Empty Chair Theatre Company.
And despite the challenge that putting up a show in about 3.5 weeks poses, i could not be more elated to have undertaken this project. The actors, both new and veteran company members, are fantastic to work on and behind each show (Richard and Midsummer) is a stellar design and tech team.

In exploring this history play, one of the most important visuals has been manifestations of memory: books, photos etc.etc. Today in a meeting/brainstorm session with Amals, one of my AD's we came upon these book sculptures:

These things are super cool!
Other than doing the daily directorly thing, i've been doing some publicity work, learning my lines and trying to fascilitate some vocal work with the Midsummer Cast.
I unfortunately haven't had the most time to take photos of flowers. Partially due to business, partially due to the record highs in Arlington this week. Its been miserable.
But i have been trying to photo document the work process. So you can see some of those photos here :

How is the summer weather treating you?

Kicking it off ECTC Style

wow! What a week so far. Empty Chair's production of Midsummer began rehearsing on monday.
I've been in and out of those rehearsals and i am so excited to begin rehearsals for Richard.
Its been abysmally warm here the last few days. Warm and Humid in the swamp of Arlington.

Here are some more of the Arlington Photos. Lots of blue this time.

Query?

What's your favorite type of flower?

Questions

So i'm taking steps to make this blog more interactive! I'd love to hear from you guys! So i've put a formspring app on the blog! You can follow me, or just drop me a question.
Hope to hear from you.

imperfect peas

I officially miss school. A whole bunch.
Thursday and Friday of this week i went home to see a show and stopped by the JMU library to do some research for Richard II. Just walking around campus makes me miss that security blanket that school represents. Also i miss facilitated learning. I love learning and reading, but its so much easier to do i think when your sole objective is in doing that one thing.

But. I'm back in Nova and about to start gearing up for the welcome picnic! Monday we kick off ECTC's summer season and Sunday we're welcoming everyone with a fun Mediterranean lunch.

Here are some flowers, peas i think, that i found while roving around the neighborhood i live in. They aren't perfect photos...i was trying to snap some before my camera died.

So work

I am up in Arlington for a few months this summer to direct Richard II with Empty Chair Theatre Company.

Rehearsals start in a week and i have been scrambling to get things all prepared.
Not only am i directing this season, but i'm also fulfilling my normal role director of publicity.

Its very funny how we, as a company, all come together once the company heads and other staff get home from school. Oh college i miss you. We're having pre-season staff meetings and solidifying rehearsal spaces and all sorts of things.  Sometimes there is just a little too much to wrap my head around.

But much to my relief and pleasure the designers working on both plays have finished their work with grace and ease and we have great looking posters!

Beautiful!

Back in the saddle

I am feeling so much better!
And i have photos to prove it.

The weather in Arlington has been beautiful so i've made some trips out to photograph.
The neighborhood where i live has lots of beautiful gardens in all styles!
Some of which, according to my friend's mom have been featured in home and garden magazines!
i stay away from their gardens for my photos just in case they are copyright protected or something...
but when i go walking i sometimes stumble upon things that have fallen onto the sidewalk or
peek out through a fence.

Here's a few photos from a poppy study.

And some hydrangeas.
I went to visit a friend of mine up in Chevy Chase...and her hydrangeas were beautiful!

So glad to be back and feeling good.

Time

It feels like i have lost a whole lot of time this week.
Been ill the last two days. But hoping I'm on my way back up. i had real food for the first time in two days this evening. Some Thai Noodles and Broccoli and beef. I am eating it gingerly.
Lots of work this week. Lots of worrying too.
But i've happened upon a cool upcoming event:
I'm really sad to learn that entry fee to the conference is hella expensive. I think it would be great for Empty Chair to be able to go, and there are lots of things specifically that i am interested in.
::sigh:: I'll keep dreaming.
