Succulents

Photo taken from my Droid
While i was home on Monday i took the time to wander around my Grandmother's garden.

Its changed a lot since i was a child, so much of it i planned and picked the flowers for.

Mostly, in her old age she keeps potted plants and a few out in the front of the yard.

I was so excited to find these Hen and Chicks had grown so much since i remembered them.

I need a long steamy bath

There has been a lot going on. Lots of trial and tribulation type crap.
(I am in such a rare mood right now) Not the least of which is that my computer died last night while i was at work. I'm not sure i could have spent a more miserable last few hours of my work week. It just will not come on. And i have ALL my work there. All my paraphrasing my stuff for line notes all my empty chair information all my images all my personal files.
And its out of warranty.
I am eagerly awaiting pay day.
My legs are also covered in bug bites.
And for the better part of two days i thought the bank had rejected my car loan after approving it and the car company was going to take my car away.

However. Upon calling the car company, i discovered they have been paid.
YAY! No car loss. And i went home and took a nap with my cats. LOVELY.
And while my computer is still dead i'm up at my Alma Mater using their spiffy new computers and i got to poke around in my grandmothers garden. (She has some succulents going crazy...got some nice photos. I'll share soon.

Anyway. Hope everyone had a great day. And i hope you get to come home to something like this:

First week on the job

Happy weekend to you guys! I'm not on my weekend yet...but soon! Hope you all are in someplace wonderful.

How refreshing and exciting it is to step into a new job. Its great to be looking at new scripts and working with new people and doing new things. I am still rather expecting to see those familiar faces turning a corner...but i'm pretty excited to be doing what i am.

And i feel pretty good. Transitions are hard for me. I try hard to be adaptable because for most intensive purposes i hate change. My nearest and dearest sort of take for granted that i'll be puzzled, confused and unhappy about changes to their appearance and that I have real anxiety about things like moving.  (Amusing for a person who has primarily been a touring actor since that changes everyday)

So i'm pleased with myself. So far so good.

Happy Monday

Monday again! Last week was a crazy thing. The Touring shows closed yesterday and most everyone has disbanded and headed back to their homes. It was much harder than expected to say goodbye to such great folks.

So i must say that i'm in need of a little inspirational pick me up. I thought these were pretty magical.

Cooking

The other day, i had some friends over for sort of impromptu end of our touring contract dinner. It ended up being a really big fun shindig over beers and wine and bourbon and lots of good food. I had my hands so full doing cooking and eating somehow we didn't manage to take any photos...but i thought i'd share the recipes i used. Thanks EpicuriousPhotos stolen from Pinterest...cause i'm lame.

Starters
Beer Steamed Shrimp with Old Bay ( Maryland Way) provided by my friend Rick
Olive Spread with Walnuts (I subbed in Almonds instead...turned out great)

Entrees -I'll link you to the recipes but i kind of mixed and matched
Broiled Salmon from the Salmon with Arugula, Tomato and Caper Sauce
Spicy and Sweet Italian Sausages
Whole Wheat Pasta
Provencal Oven Roasted Tomato Sauce

Dessert
Strawberry Shortcake

It was a beautiful dinner with lots of great fellow and friendship and a great bow on a great year of cooking with those guys.

Empty Chair Benefit

As i may have mentioned, this summer Empty Chair has been invited to perform at the Folger Shakespeare Library.
As a part of this benefit performance we're throwing a Champagne Reception.
I actually have nothing to do with the planning of said reception but i LOVE entertaining. And i LOVE planning things...and it seems like everywhere i turn i'm seeing really delightful images of galas and events. So Pinterest and I have collected our fav. things. These being just a few

This for me is a huge time of transition. The end of long touring contract and the beginning of another (albeit stationary this time). About to move back into the newly renovated house that i started this job in (talk about crazy cyclical)
And so i'm trying to take stock of things. I've started writing again. Reading a lot. Trying to supplement my life with things that are beautiful and creative...beginning to take pictures again. Its an exciting place to be.

Happy Monday

Sitting out in the sun doing some writing.
My favorite coffee shop opened a back patio beer garden and I am making full use of it. In one corner of this delicious little walled garden is a Japanese maple tree. I tried to take a pic on my Android, this one has really lovely leaves...but the result wasn't what I had expected. But its still pretty cool.

Vehicle

So last Christmas my car died. And i have been living for quite some time on the kindness of my friends who, literally, tote me around where ever i need to go or loan me their cars. Thank God for friends. In truth, i have been less than concerned since for many of the months in between now and December I was on tour. So no need for a vehicle. But now i'm settling in back in Staunton, my current contract will be done in less than 2 weeks   (i.e- my friends are going away) and i find myself pining for a vehicle. Or at least the freedom of transportation that it affords.

Problem.
I don't know anything about buying a car. I don't have the MONEY to buy a car outright. SO. I am going to learn. About purchasing cars. And Loans and all those things. ::sigh:: Sometimes the real world SUX.

Some Thoughtfuls for your day

Since i opened my Pinterest account I've been collecting what i call thoughtfuls. Which are really just pictures of inspirational sayings. Cause sometimes you need something to pick you up. Here are a few of my favorite since today is a day i needed a little pick me up:

Cool article

Check out this incredible article about DC actress Jamairais Malone in Arena Stage's production of Ruined. Wish i could get up there to see it.
